This is a residential area, not an industrial zone.

Thank you!

The Neighborhood wishes to send a heart-felt Thank You to Councilor Debbie Atwood.  At the last Town Council meeting, she spoke out on our behalf regarding the appointment of Councilor Joanne King to the NNEPRA Layover Facility Advisory Board, and it is MUCH appreciated.

What more can you really ask for from a Town Councilor?  She is honest and dedicated, and we are please to have her as out representative and neighbor!

Further, Debbie was right!  Councilor King does not have the confidence of the neighborhood most negatively impacted should this facility should it be constructed in NNEPRA's proposed site.  NNEPRA should not be allowed to dictate who represents Brunswick.  We need a Councilor on this Board who will fight for us and knows the basics of construction.  For those reasons and more, we support the appointment of Councilor John Perreault to the NNEPRA Layover Advisory Board.

  1. did you all not buy your homes near train tracks and have any idea that this may happen? beating up members of the town council is not the way to be "heard." Very childish behavior by many of you!

  2. The facility is planned for the intown railroad corridor, not a residential area. Please be honest and accurate in your presentation.

  3. no one builds near a rr track without expecting rr traffic. but a 60,000 square foot facility? it's *three times* the size that zoning permits.

when we bought, we were assured that we would always have a chance to influence the process through zoning and local planning processes. sensible, no?

unfortunately, the bullies at NNEPRA don't care about local process unless it suits them. and our town doesn't care about enforcing its own processes and master plan.

so enough of this "you bought near a track so you have no right to expect anything." that's complete nonsense. by the same logic, anyone buying next to a convenience store has no right to object to a shopping being placed on the same property.

really? tell that to the 100 homeowners who live immediately nearby. they might beg to differ, because they all live in a heavily residential neighborhood. it has been that way for over 40 years.

Brunswick zoning is a joke, and makes no sense. even so, NNEPRA refused even to adhere to the absurd zoning. it needed a zoning appeal to plan this monstrosity. so don't tell me this is "really" a railyard. it's not, and hasn't been for a half a century.

by this reasoning, we all live in farming land, because this land was once used to farm.

we have no problem with the train coming. more power to Brunswick. but to argue that historic use is consistent with a train garage in our neighborhood is absurd.

  5. Trains go by there now, last year, and every year. It is a railroad now, it always has been.

All of the opposing arguments are false and are intended to inflame people.

  6. We do not oppose passing trains, or the construction of this facility in an appropriate location. In fact, we look forward to the RESPONSIBLE development of Brunswick. We believe that does not include reducing our residential tax base by constructing a noisy, smelly eyesore next to a thriving neighborhood. Brunswick deserves better, and can have better if people are more forward thinking.

Let's get this right while we still can.

We're not talking about trains. We're talking about a sixty thousand square foot garage, which will operate 24/7. There has been no structure on that land since this neighborhood was built. Let the train come. But put the garage where it makes the most sense for all.
